Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive echocardiogram studies including transthoracic 2-D, M-Mode, color-flow Doppler, and transesophageal exams with accuracy and clinical confidence
• Conduct exercise and pharmacologic stress echocardiography and provide high-quality diagnostic imaging for cardiology teams
• Perform other cardiac diagnostic procedures such as EKGs, Holter monitoring (prep, monitoring, analysis), and cardiac stress testing
• Operate and maintain diagnostic equipment including echocardiographs, cardiac stress systems, electrocardiographs, and Holter monitors to ensure optimal image/data quality
• Accurately document and process studies within hospital information systems for scheduling, billing, and reporting
• Apply infection control practices and aseptic techniques to protect patients and maintain equipment hygiene
• Provide clinical instruction and preceptorship to students from contracted colleges and universities
• Deliver age-specific cardiac diagnostic care, including neonatal and pediatric patients, following established protocols

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) credential required
• Successful completion of an echocardiography certification program and/or a minimum of 2 years hands-on echocardiography experience
• Preferred: extensive hospital-based echocardiography experience and strong background in pediatric and neonatal echocardiography
• Preferred education: Certificate in Cardiovascular Sonography

Education

• High School Diploma or GED (required)
• Certificate Program in Cardiovascular Sonography (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficiency in transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography techniques
• Experience with M-Mode, color-flow Doppler, exercise and pharmacologic stress echo
• Competence in EKG acquisition, Holter monitoring and analysis, and cardiac stress testing
• Skilled in operating and troubleshooting echocardiography and cardiac diagnostic equipment
• Familiarity with hospital information systems for scheduling, processing, and charging studies
• Strong infection control practice knowledge and aseptic technique for equipment disinfection
• Ability to teach and precept students and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary clinical teams
• Comfort delivering age-specific care across the lifespan, including neonatal and pediatric populations
