Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide excellent direct patient care for orthopedic surgery patients, treating each person like family
• Perform and manage wound care, dressing changes, and wound VAC maintenance
• Remove sutures and staples and manage postoperative drains and NG/foley care
• Administer medications safely and document care accurately in Cerner
• Assist with patient mobility using lifts and mobility devices, promoting safe ambulation
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate discharge planning and patient education
• Maintain patient safety and accurate patient ratios during busy shifts and stretch scenarios
• Support unit flow and float to other Med-Surg areas when needed

Qualifications

• Active NC nursing license (required)
• Valid BLS certification (required)
• Registered Nurse (RN) credential
• Minimum 2 years clinical experience (as posted)
• Hospital and orthopedic experience preferred
• Comfortable with EMR documentation (Cerner preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of orthopedic postoperative care and common procedures
• Proficient with Cerner electronic medical record documentation
• Wound care skills including VAC maintenance and dressing changes
• Experience with patient lifts and mobility equipment (Sara Stedy, Hoyer, etc.)
• Ability to manage multiple patients, prioritize, and work in a fast-paced unit
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
