Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, expert nursing care for post-op and critically ill cardiac patients in the CVICU
• Continuously assess hemodynamic status and intervene promptly to stabilize patients
• Manage advanced monitoring, ventilators, and vasoactive infusions with precision
• Collaborate closely with cardiothoracic surgeons, intensivists, and the multidisciplinary team to coordinate care
• Educate patients and families about care plans, recovery milestones, and discharge needs
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately and timely
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement and patient safety initiatives

Qualifications

• Current RN license (must be authorized to practice in Texas or eligible for quick state licensure)
• Minimum 1 year of CVICU or relevant critical care nursing experience (as listed in the job posting)
• BLS required; ACLS strongly preferred
• Comfortable with advanced cardiac monitoring, post-op cardiac care, and vasoactive drips
• Ability to work 12-hour day shifts and collaborate in a fast-paced ICU environment
• Strong communication skills and a patient-centered approach

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Advanced assessment skills for critically ill cardiac patients
• Proficiency with hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation
• Experience with ventilator management and airway support
• Familiarity with post-operative cardiac care and chest tube management
• Medication administration and titration of vasoactive agents
• Teamwork, situational awareness, and priority-setting in high-acuity settings
