Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert care for laboring patients throughout labor and delivery, using evidence-based practices
• Perform immediate newborn care after delivery, including stabilization and handoff
• Circulate and recover C-section patients, coordinating with anesthesia and surgical teams
• Monitor fetal status and maternal well-being, escalating concerns per protocol
• Document care accurately using CPN and Meditach to ensure continuity and safety
• Collaborate with RNs, unit secretaries, OR techs and interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes
• Participate in shared decision-making with patients and families to deliver patient-centered care
• Adhere to unit policies, infection control, and safety protocols while contributing to unit improvements

Qualifications

• Active RN license in good standing
• Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience (required)
• AWHONN Intermediate (not advanced) or CEFM required
• Current ACLS, BLS, and NRP certifications required
• Comfortable with vaginal deliveries, C-sections, epidurals, D&C, cerclage and tub labor procedures
• Familiarity with unit workflows, floating policies, and working with techs and unit secretaries

Education

• Active RN license (required)
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN/BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proven skills in care of the laboring patient and immediate newborn care
• Strong fetal monitoring and electronic fetal monitoring (CEFM) competency
• Experience circulating and recovering C-section patients
• Proficient documentation in CPN and Meditach systems
• Ability to manage patient ratios in a fast-paced 12-bed L&D unit
• Effective communication and teamwork in multidisciplinary settings
