Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor adult and geriatric patients, prioritizing safety and recovery
• Perform advanced wound care including burn dressings and wound VAC management
• Conduct flap checks and assist with specialty procedures such as leech therapy
• Initiate and manage IV therapy, central lines, PICCs, and blood product administration
• Interpret telemetry and dysrhythmias and respond through Rapid Response/Code teams
• Administer medications and follow protocols (insulin drips, heparin protocols, PCA, etc.)
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams—PT, RT, Pharmacy, Social Services—to coordinate care
• Document patient care accurately in EPIC and manage medications using Pyxis
• Support unit needs by floating within OSU when required and covering weekends per schedule

Qualifications

• BLS required
• ACLS required
• 2+ years of recent Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience required
• Experience with telemetry, IV therapy/starting and maintaining IVs, and central line care
• EPIC documentation and Pyxis medication system experience
• Previous Charge RN experience preferred
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Experience with burns, plastics/reconstructive, urology, GYN, ENT, or oral-maxillofacial populations preferred
• Ability to float within OSU and work rotating weekend coverage (every other/third weekend)

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry/remote monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation
• IV therapy, peripheral line care, PICC and port management
• Central line care and blood product administration
• Wound care including wound VAC, skin graft care, and burn dressing techniques
• Experience with epidural analgesia, procedural sedation, and cardiac/insulin drip protocols
• Familiarity with feeding tube care and GI/renal protocols (CBI, pre/post hemodialysis)
• Use of EPIC for charting and Pyxis for medication management
• Comfort working in a fast-paced teaching hospital environment and responding to emergencies
