Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide age-specific patient education on oral hygiene, home care, and nutrition to prevent and control oral disease
• Perform clinical hygiene duties including periodontal therapy, coronal polishing, and topical fluoride applications
• Measure and chart periodontal pockets and perform dental radiography (x-rays)
• Record patient vitals such as pulse, blood pressure, and temperature
• Manage and maintain the patient schedule to optimize clinic flow
• Coordinate and run community dental prevention events like health fairs, sealant clinics, and Head Start clinics
• Maintain hygienist supplies and ensure proper sterilization of instruments
• Support the clinical team with accurate clinical judgment and other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene Program required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Passed National Board Examination for Dental Hygienists
• Active Dental Hygiene License in Alaska or another U.S. state (Alaska license preferred)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 45 days of start
• Clinical Competency Assessment required within 3 months of hire and every 3 years
• High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and annually
• High school diploma or GED
• Ability to sit and maintain clinical posture for extended periods and good manual dexterity

Education

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene Program (required)
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong infection control practices and sterilization procedures
• Knowledge of dental and periodontal disease and appropriate treatment therapies
• Proficient use of dental instruments and radiography techniques
• Excellent oral and written communication skills for patient education
• Accurate clinical judgment and attention to detail
• Experience measuring periodontal pockets and recording clinical findings
