Roles & Responsibilities

• Audit medical records to verify accurate CPT and ICD-10 coding, ensuring documentation supports the assigned codes.
• Compile clear, actionable audit reports with analysis of findings and trends to improve coding quality.
• Provide regular education and feedback to physicians, midlevel providers, coders, and charge entry staff to strengthen documentation.
• Maintain audit lodges and track audit outcomes to support continuous improvement across the revenue cycle.
• Collaborate with the Revenue Cycle Manager to design tools and education plans that enhance clinical documentation.
• Train new revenue cycle team members on coding guidelines and documentation best practices.
• Perform coding tasks as needed to support operations and validate audit findings.
• Assist with evaluation of coding activities and contribute to performance evaluations for revenue cycle personnel.

Qualifications

• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) — required (we won’t consider candidates without this credential).
• Associate degree in a related field is required; Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
• Minimum five (5) years of combined inpatient and outpatient coding and auditing experience.
• Proven experience coding professional claims in a medical office-based or multi-specialty group practice setting (preferred).
• Comfortable interacting with physicians and clinical staff to provide constructive education and documentation guidance.
• Strong attention to detail, excellent written/verbal communication, and the ability to meet productivity targets.

Education

• Associate Degree in a related field (required)
• Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Expertise with ICD-10 and CPT coding standards
• Professional physician coding and both inpatient and outpatient coding experience
• Medical record auditing and coding audit methodologies
• Provider education and training skills
• Familiarity with revenue cycle processes, charge entry, and audit reporting
• Ability to design documentation improvement tools and collaborate with leadership
• Experience working onsite and interacting directly with clinicians
