Roles & Responsibilities
- Manage mechanical ventilation and perform ventilator checks using GE ventilators with confidence
- Provide advanced airway management and tracheostomy care for adult and geriatric patients
- Interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs) and adjust therapy to optimize patient outcomes
- Administer respiratory medications and manage nebulizer and inhaled therapy delivery systems
- Set up and monitor HFNC, BiPAP, and CPAP therapies and troubleshoot high-pressure alarms
- Lead weaning protocols and support safe extubation when clinically appropriate
- Perform pulmonary hygiene, suctioning, and sputum specimen collection as needed
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to deliver patient-centered critical care and document accurately
Qualifications
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification preferred
- CRT is a plus; ACLS and BLS required or preferred per facility guidance
- Minimum 1 year of respiratory therapy experience (adult critical care or ED experience preferred)
- High school diploma plus college diploma or transcripts required
- Previous travel experience preferred but not required
- Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required per facility guideline
- Willingness to float between campuses when requested
Education
- High school diploma required
- College diploma or transcripts required (respiratory therapy program preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- Ventilator management including troubleshooting high pressure alarms
- Experience with GE 860 ventilators preferred
- High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), BiPAP and CPAP operation and monitoring
- Airway management, oral/nasal suctioning, and tracheostomy care
- Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs) and titration of respiratory therapy
- Medication administration for respiratory agents and familiarity with nebulizer/MDI delivery systems
- Pulmonary hygiene techniques and sputum specimen collection
- Weaning from mechanical ventilation and safe extubation practices
