Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting with dignity and respect
- Monitor and document vital signs and resident behaviors accurately to support care plans
- Support mobility and transfers safely, using proper body mechanics and assistive devices
- Help create a warm, home-like environment by engaging residents in conversation and meaningful activities
- Communicate changes in resident condition promptly to nursing staff and document per facility policy
- Maintain infection control practices and follow facility protocols to protect residents and staff
Qualifications
- Current State GNA certification (required)
- CPR/BLS certification (preferred or willing to obtain)
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience working with geriatric or long-term care populations is a plus
- Successful completion of background check and required health screenings/immunizations
- Compassionate attitude, strong communication skills, and ability to work well on a care team
Education
- High school diploma or GED
- Completion of an approved Geriatric Nursing Assistant training program
Knowledge & Skills
- Comfortable assisting with ADLs and personal care for older adults
- Basic clinical skills: taking and recording vital signs, observing skin condition, reporting changes
- Knowledge of infection control and safety practices in a long-term care setting
- Reliable documentation skills and following care plans accurately
- Strong interpersonal skills and patience for working with residents with cognitive or mobility challenges
- Teamwork mindset and willingness to support nurses and other care staff
