Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, person-centered care to geriatric residents, focusing on dignity and comfort
• Assist residents with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, grooming and toileting
• Measure and record vital signs and report any changes in condition to nursing staff promptly
• Support safe mobility and transfers, using proper body mechanics and assistive devices
• Document care accurately and timely in resident records and communicate handoff details clearly
• Follow infection control practices and facility policies to keep residents and coworkers safe
• Engage residents in meaningful activities and provide emotional support to enhance quality of life
• Collaborate with nurses, therapists and family members to help meet individualized care goals

Qualifications

• Current Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification or equivalent in Maryland
• Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification preferred or required per facility policy
• Up-to-date immunizations and TB screening as required by the employer
• Background check and required clearances for patient care roles
• Comfortable assisting with mobility and transfers; ability to stand and move throughout shift
• Strong communication skills and a patient, compassionate approach with older adults
• Prior experience in long-term care or geriatric setting is a plus

Education

• High school diploma or GED required
• Completion of an approved GNA training program

Knowledge & Skills

• Understanding of activities of daily living and geriatric care needs
• Familiarity with basic vital sign collection and reporting
• Knowledge of infection control and safe patient handling practices
• Clear documentation skills and basic comfort with electronic or paper charting
• Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families and interdisciplinary teams
• Time management and prioritization skills during busy shift periods
