Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate psychiatric nursing care to patients in a secure correctional setting
• Administer medications and treatments accurately and document thoroughly
• Monitor and report changes in mental and physical status to the clinical team
• Collaborate with security and interdisciplinary staff to maintain a safe environment
• Support patient-centered plans by participating in treatment and discharge planning
• Educate patients and families about care plans, medication, and safety in a clear, respectful way

Qualifications

• Current California Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license or Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) license
• Active clinical experience in psychiatric or behavioral health nursing preferred
• Experience working in correctional or secure-care settings is a plus
• Valid BLS/CPR certification (or willing to obtain)
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work calmly under pressure
• Ability to pass facility-required background and clearance checks

Education

• Vocational Nursing certificate or equivalent; required LVN or LPT licensure in California

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of psychiatric nursing principles and medication administration
• Skillful in patient assessment, behavior management, and documentation
• Comfortable working as part of an interdisciplinary team in a secure facility
• Good judgment, de-escalation techniques, and attention to safety protocols
• Familiarity with correctional facility policies and procedures preferred
