Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, hands-on care to residents, assisting with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility
- Monitor and accurately record vital signs and resident conditions, communicating changes to nursing staff
- Support safe transfers and ambulation, using proper body mechanics and assistive devices
- Help maintain a clean, comfortable, and safe environment for residents
- Document care activities and observations clearly and timely in resident records
- Foster warm, respectful relationships with residents and their families — emotional support matters
- Work collaboratively with the care team to deliver person-centered care and positive outcomes
Qualifications
- GNA certification (state-appropriate) or equivalent — required
- Current CPR/BLS certification (or obtain upon hire, if required by facility)
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Compassion, patience, and excellent communication skills
- Ability to perform physical aspects of the role (lifting, transfers, standing for shifts)
- Prior experience in long-term care or with geriatric populations is a plus
Education
- High school diploma or GED; GNA certification or state equivalent required
Knowledge & Skills
- Basic patient care and activities of daily living (ADLs)
- Vital signs measurement and charting
- Infection control and safety procedures
- Safe transfer and mobility assistance techniques
- Clear, respectful communication with residents, families, and staff
- Time management and the ability to prioritize resident needs
