Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, hands-on care to residents, assisting with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility
• Monitor and accurately record vital signs and resident conditions, communicating changes to nursing staff
• Support safe transfers and ambulation, using proper body mechanics and assistive devices
• Help maintain a clean, comfortable, and safe environment for residents
• Document care activities and observations clearly and timely in resident records
• Foster warm, respectful relationships with residents and their families — emotional support matters
• Work collaboratively with the care team to deliver person-centered care and positive outcomes

Qualifications

• GNA certification (state-appropriate) or equivalent — required
• Current CPR/BLS certification (or obtain upon hire, if required by facility)
• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Compassion, patience, and excellent communication skills
• Ability to perform physical aspects of the role (lifting, transfers, standing for shifts)
• Prior experience in long-term care or with geriatric populations is a plus

Education

• High school diploma or GED; GNA certification or state equivalent required

Knowledge & Skills

• Basic patient care and activities of daily living (ADLs)
• Vital signs measurement and charting
• Infection control and safety procedures
• Safe transfer and mobility assistance techniques
• Clear, respectful communication with residents, families, and staff
• Time management and the ability to prioritize resident needs
