Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, patient-centered nursing care to patients in a correctional medical setting
• Administer medications and treatments safely and according to orders and facility protocols
• Monitor and document patient status, behavior, and vital signs with accuracy
• Collaborate with psychiatric technicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams to support behavioral health needs
• Support intake, observation, and crisis de-escalation efforts as needed
• Participate in orientation, mandatory trainings, and shift handoffs to ensure continuity of care
• Maintain professional standards and follow institutional policies for safety, security, and infection control

Qualifications

• Active California Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license required
• Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) license welcomed/acceptable — this role supports LVN/LPT staffing
• Willingness to work the scheduled Thursday-Monday day shifts (5:45 AM - 2:15 PM)
• Ability to pass required background checks and facility onboarding
• Comfort working in a correctional healthcare environment and following security protocols
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team

Education

• Graduate of an accredited Vocational Nursing program or equivalent training
• Completion of accredited Psychiatric Technician program if applying as LPT

Knowledge & Skills

• Medication administration and basic clinical assessment skills
• Knowledge of psychiatric and behavioral health care principles
• Accurate charting and documentation practices
• Infection control and standard safety procedures
• De-escalation techniques and patient observation skills
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple patient needs during shifts
