Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, toileting) with dignity and respect
- Support safe mobility: help with transfers, ambulation, and positioning
- Monitor and record vital signs and resident observations accurately
- Provide compassionate companionship and engage residents in meaningful interaction
- Document care and report any changes in condition to the nursing team promptly
- Follow infection control and safety protocols to protect residents and staff
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to deliver person-centered care
Qualifications
- Valid GNA (Geriatric Nursing Assistant) certification — required
- Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or willingness to obtain
- Active state registry or ability to register as required by Maryland
- Clear background check and compliant immunizations per facility policy
- Strong communication skills and a caring, patient-centered approach
- Previous experience in long-term care or skilled nursing preferred
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- GNA certification (required)
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of geriatric care principles and resident-centered approaches
- Basic vital signs measurement and charting accuracy
- Infection control practices and safe handling techniques
- Good observational skills to notice subtle changes in residents
- Teamwork and effective communication with nurses and care staff
- Time management and ability to prioritize resident needs
