Roles & Responsibilities

• Assist residents with activities of daily living including bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting
• Support safe mobility and transfers, using proper body mechanics and assistive devices
• Help with meal service and feeding, ensuring dignity and comfort during meals
• Observe residents closely and promptly report changes in condition to nursing staff
• Document care provided and resident status accurately and on time
• Provide compassionate, person-centered care that promotes resident well-being
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to support individualized care plans
• Maintain a clean, safe environment and follow infection control policies

Qualifications

• GNA certification or state-approved nursing assistant credential (preferred or required depending on state)
• CPR/BLS certification preferred or required by facility
• Previous experience in long-term care, skilled nursing, or geriatric settings is a plus
• Ability to pass background check and drug screen as required by facility
• Strong communication skills and a caring, patient-focused attitude

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Completion of an approved Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) training program or equivalent credential

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of geriatric care principles and common age-related conditions
• Familiarity with activities of daily living (ADLs) and resident assistance techniques
• Basic infection control practices and safe handling techniques
• Comfortable with documentation and electronic or paper charting
• Ability to work independently overnight and escalate concerns appropriately
• Teamwork and effective communication with nursing staff and allied disciplines
