Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality nursing care to patients in the medical unit
• Perform thorough assessments and timely interventions to support patient health
• Administer medications and treatments accurately and document care clearly
• Coordinate care with interdisciplinary team members to ensure continuity
• Maintain precise medical records and comply with facility policies and security requirements
• Respond quickly and professionally to urgent situations and medical emergencies
• Educate patients about their care and collaborate with custody staff when appropriate

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license — California RN license required or must be eligible to obtain
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; ACLS/PALS as appropriate or preferred
• Previous medical/acute care nursing experience preferred, especially in correctional or secured settings
• Demonstrated ability to work reliably on a consistent weekday evening schedule
• Strong communication, documentation, and teamwork skills

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in patient assessment and clinical decision-making
• Medication administration and IV/line management experience
• Comfortable with electronic charting and accurate documentation
• Knowledge of infection control and safety protocols
• Ability to work effectively within a security-conscious healthcare setting
• Excellent interpersonal skills for working with patients and multidisciplinary staff
