Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living — bathing, dressing, grooming and mobility
- Provide compassionate support during meals and assist with feeding when needed
- Monitor residents’ condition and report changes promptly to the nursing team
- Take and record vital signs and assist with basic clinical tasks as directed
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation to support high-quality care
- Promote a safe, clean and respectful environment for seniors and colleagues
- Collaborate with nurses, therapists and families to deliver person-centered care
- Support recreational and social activities to enhance residents’ quality of life
Qualifications
- Current Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification (required)
- State registry or licensure as applicable for Maryland
- CPR/BLS certification preferred or willing to obtain
- Background check and health screening clearance as required by facility
- Strong communication skills and a compassionate, patient-first attitude
- Ability to perform physical aspects of the role safely (lifting, transfers, standing)
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Completion of an accredited GNA training program
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of activities of daily living (ADLs) and senior care basics
- Infection control practices and safe handling procedures
- Basic charting and documentation skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills for working with residents and families
- Teamwork and time-management in a fast-paced care setting
- Attention to detail and commitment to resident dignity and safety
