Roles & Responsibilities

• Scrub and assist for a full range of CVOR and General OR procedures, ensuring sterile technique and patient safety
• Prepare and manage surgical instrumentation and specialty equipment for cases such as CABG, AVR, MVR, LVAD/RVAD, VATS and RATS
• Chart perioperative care accurately in EPIC and communicate clear handoffs to the team
• Participate in on-call coverage, including weekend and evening call shifts as scheduled
• Float to Main OR as needed to support unit staffing and maintain smooth case flow
• Support emergency responses and trauma cases while adhering to universal protocol and infection control standards
• Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and techs to anticipate needs and improve procedural efficiency

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of OR/CVOR scrub experience (able to scrub both CVOR and General OR procedures)
• Current BLS required; ACLS, PALS, TNCC and CNOR highly preferred
• Pending licenses accepted; must obtain required licensure per facility guidelines
• Comfortable with EPIC charting and 1:1 patient ratios in operative settings
• Able to float to Main OR and cover required call schedule (weekend and weekday evenings)
• Experience with major cardiovascular, thoracic, and general surgical procedures preferred

Education

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program or equivalent preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Expertise in CVOR and General OR scrub techniques and sterile field management
• Familiarity with EPIC charting and perioperative documentation
• Experience with cardiovascular procedures: CABG, AVR, MVR, aortic aneurysm repair, femoral cannulation, IABP, MAZE
• Thoracic skills: VATS, RATS, mediastinoscopy, pericardial window
• Exposure to LVAD/RVAD cases and robotic-assisted surgery workflows
• Proficiency with equipment such as cell saver, electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources
• Strong infection control, specimen handling, and universal protocol (time out) practices
