Roles & Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality emergency and trauma care to a high-volume patient population in a Level 1 trauma center
- Rapidly assess, triage, and manage critically ill and injured patients using evidence-based practice
- Perform and maintain competence in procedural skills such as Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes using strict sterile technique
- Monitor and interpret cardiac strips on Phillips telemetry and respond to changes in patient status
- Document patient care accurately and efficiently in Cerner
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, respiratory therapy, and pharmacy to coordinate timely care
- Participate in SIMs lab and competency assessments to ensure ongoing skill proficiency
- Float between St. Joseph's Main, Westgate, and two freestanding ERs as needed, providing consistent, high-quality care across sites
Qualifications
- Active RN license (able to submit or obtain for Arizona)
- Minimum 6 months trauma Level 1 experience required; 2 years ER experience strongly preferred
- Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
- TNCC and ATCN preferred; ENPC does not substitute for PALS
- Comfortable reading cardiac strips from Phillips monitors
- Able to pass pre-assignment DYS exam (two attempts provided) and day 1 pass/fail orientation assessments
- Travel teams must have reliable personal vehicle
- Facility-specific appearance and fit-test requirements: natural hair color, no facial piercings, and men must be clean shaven for fit testing
Education
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)
- Active RN license in the state of practice (Arizona); license-to-submit candidates considered
Knowledge & Skills
- Emergency and trauma nursing best practices in a Level 1 trauma center
- Proficiency with Cerner electronic medical record charting
- Sterile technique and infection prevention, including central line care and procedural dressing changes
- Competence with Foley catheter insertion and related care
- Ability to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips on Phillips monitors
- Strong critical thinking, rapid decision-making, and effective communication in high-acuity settings
- Adaptability to float across multiple nearby sites and handle variable patient volumes
