Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality critical care for complex ICU patients including trauma, neurosurgical, and cardiovascular cases
• Interpret ECG/telemetry strips and manage dysrhythmias independently
• Titrate vasoactive and sedative drips safely and per protocol
• Manage mechanical ventilation and advanced respiratory devices
• Collaborate with intensivists, RTs, and multidisciplinary teams for 24/7 patient care
• Serve as charge nurse when assigned (charge nurses do not take patients)
• Float between Medical/Cardiac/SICU units as needed to meet patient care demands
• Complete required pre-hire dysrhythmia exam and successfully pass the orientation sim lab

Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted RN license (state of practice) and documentation ready for submission
• Minimum 3 years recent ICU experience required (experience must include either neuro or cardiovascular care)
• BLS and ACLS certification required; NIHSS certification required
• Successful completion of a UNA Dysrhythmia Exam prior to acceptance (24-48 hours prior; max 2 attempts)
• Ability to titrate drips and manage common ICU medications (vasopressors, sedatives, paralytics, insulin, heparin, etc.)
• Comfortable with telemetry (RN interprets own strips) and advanced monitors (GE monitors common)
• Willingness to float to tele with 1:3 or 1:4 ratios and to work in a Level 1 trauma environment
• First-time travelers are welcome provided experience requirements are met; may not have worked for CommonSpirit/CHI/Dignity within the past year (radius rule applies)

Knowledge & Skills

• Critical care nursing fundamentals and trauma/neurosurgical care
• Ventilator management (Hamilton, Dreager, Puritan Bennett 840 familiarity a plus)
• ECG interpretation and dysrhythmia recognition
• Titration of drips and vasoactive medication management
• Experience with CRRT, ECMO, IABP, Impella, and TAVR exposures is a plus
• Familiarity with Cerner charting and unit workflows
• Ability to function independently in high-acuity, fast-paced settings
• Strong clinical judgment, communication, and teamwork skills
