Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide safe, effective, patient-family centered medical/surgical nursing care on the night shift
• Perform thorough patient assessments and create timely, accurate care plans
• Document clinical findings and care delivered using the facility’s electronic medical record
• Respond rapidly and efficiently to emergency situations to protect patient safety
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate continuity of care
• Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients and families to support informed decision-making
• Maintain strict confidentiality and support the organization’s mission, vision and values
• Function independently while recognizing when to escalate concerns for optimal patient outcomes

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license — state of Maine licensure or appropriate compact/state authorization preferred
• Clinical experience in medical-surgical nursing (current or recent med/surg experience a strong plus)
• Strong documentation and electronic medical record (EMR) skills
• Ability to function independently and make sound clinical decisions during night hours
• Excellent communication skills and a commitment to patient-family centered care
• Ability to act rapidly and efficiently in emergency situations
• Willingness to complete facility-required trainings and orientation

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN) — degree preferred or equivalent clinical experience

Knowledge & Skills

• Medical-surgical nursing principles and best practices
• Patient assessment and clinical observation
• Clear, timely documentation and charting in EMR systems
• Strong verbal and written communication with patients, families and the care team
• Emergency response and prioritization in urgent situations
• Maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries
• Computer literacy and comfort using electronic health records
