Roles & Responsibilities
- Deliver skilled occupational therapy interventions under the supervision of the OT to help patients regain independence in activities of daily living
- Collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary team members to coordinate patient-centered care plans
- Assess functional abilities and implement evidence-based therapeutic activities and adaptive equipment recommendations
- Document treatment progress accurately and timely in the facility electronic medical record
- Educate patients and families on home programs and strategies to promote safety and functional gains
- Advocate for patient needs and contribute to discharge planning for smooth transitions
Qualifications
- Current Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) credential
- California state licensure or eligibility to practice in California
- Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification or willingness to obtain quickly
- Current immunizations and TB screening as required by facility policy
- Strong communication and teamwork skills with a patient-focused mindset
- Previous experience in inpatient rehabilitation or similar settings is preferred
Education
- Associate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in ADL and functional mobility training with attention to safety
- Familiarity with adaptive equipment, splinting basics, and home modification recommendations
- Ability to follow and implement individualized treatment plans
- Proficient documentation practices and comfort with electronic medical records
- Knowledge of infection control, patient transfer techniques, and safe handling
- Effective patient and caregiver education skills
