Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert cardiovascular and stepdown nursing care using strong clinical judgment to assess and treat patients
- Monitor and interpret EKGs and hemodynamic data to detect and respond to changes quickly
- Care for post-op open heart patients (18–24 hours post-op) and manage complex cardiac interventions like PTCA, stents, TAVR and MitraClip
- Support electrophysiology procedures and Bi‑ventricular pacemaker patients with focused assessments and interventions
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to develop and carry out individualized care plans
- Educate patients and families on condition management, recovery expectations, and self-care after discharge
- Participate in unit-based initiatives and clinical trials to advance patient outcomes and professional practice
- Float to similar units as needed to support patient care across the facility
Qualifications
- Active Michigan RN license (LARA and Nursys verification required)
- ACLS and BLS certifications (current) required
- Minimum 1+ year of Stepdown experience — you know your cardiac patients and monitors
- Comfortable with EKG interpretation and cardiac monitoring
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Willingness to float to similar units and adapt to a fast-paced environment
- Skills checklist completed within the last year for RN specialties
- Be prepared to follow a strict attendance policy (three-strike policy for absences/tardiness)
Knowledge & Skills
- Cardiovascular nursing and stepdown care best practices
- Patient assessment and clinical judgment with cardiac focus
- EKG interpretation and telemetry monitoring
- Post‑operative open heart care (first 18–24 hours)
- Familiarity with PTCA, stents, TAVR, MitraClip and Bi‑ventricular pacemakers
- Care of congestive heart failure patients and electrophysiology study support
- Experience participating in clinical trials and adhering to research protocols
- Strong communication and teamwork within interdisciplinary settings
