Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide professional ambulatory surgical nursing care during pre-operative, post-operative, and transfer phases
- Assess patient needs across the lifespan and develop individualized care plans using the nursing process
- Implement nursing interventions and evaluate their effectiveness to ensure safe discharges
- Monitor and recognize cardiac arrhythmias and respond to life‑threatening emergencies promptly
- Support Phase II recovery and outpatient procedures, including gastroenterology and oncology patients
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members
- Serve as a patient advocate and liaison during transitions of care, ensuring continuity and safety
- Document care accurately and maintain high standards consistent with ASPAN and AORN guidelines
Qualifications
- Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Pennsylvania
- Completion of an accredited registered nurse program is required
- Current BLS required; ACLS and PALS required and maintained per American Heart Association standards
- Ability to recognize cardiac arrhythmias and manage emergency situations
- Experience or comfort working in ambulatory/peri-anesthesia or perioperative settings preferred
- Strong critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills
- EKG course completion preferred
Education
- Completion of an accredited registered nurse program (required)
Knowledge & Skills
- Solid understanding of the nursing process: assessment, care planning, implementation, evaluation
- Familiarity with ASPAN and AORN standards of care
- Competence in pre-operative and post-operative patient management, including Phase II recovery
- Cardiac arrhythmia recognition and basic life support response
- Experience with outpatient services, gastroenterology, and oncology patient care a plus
- Excellent verbal, non-verbal, and written communication; strong bedside manner
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced environment and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
