Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist surgeons and the OR team during a wide range of procedures across specialties including general, GYN, robotics, neuro, orthopedics, plastics, urology, burn and trauma
- Prepare and maintain sterile field, instruments, and supplies before and during surgery
- Anticipate surgeon needs and provide instruments and supplies promptly to keep cases flowing
- Document intraoperative events and instrument counts accurately using Cerner
- Support patient safety and quality by adhering to unit-specific policies and sterile technique
- Collaborate with perioperative staff, unit secretaries, and techs to ensure smooth transitions and turnover
- Float to other departments as needed and adapt to variable scheduling and call responsibilities
Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential required
- NBSTA certification required as listed by the facility
- Minimum 2 years of OR surgical technologist experience
- Experience across multiple service lines including robotics, neuro, orthopedics, trauma and general surgery
- Familiarity with Cerner documentation systems
- Ability to work variable schedules, accept call shifts, and float to other units
Education
- Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Broad surgical knowledge across multiple specialties
- Strong operating room procedures and sterile technique
- Experience with robotics and specialty surgical equipment
- Proficiency with Cerner documentation and intraoperative charting
- Excellent teamwork, communication, and critical thinking in fast-paced OR settings
- Ability to prioritize tasks and maintain calm under pressure
