Roles & Responsibilities
- Room patients and obtain accurate vital signs to support efficient clinic flow
- Prepare exam rooms, set up and assist with procedures, and ensure supplies are ready
- Collect, label, and process specimens including throat swabs, UA/clean catch, and blood draws
- Perform venipuncture, point-of-care testing (glucometer), and basic laboratory tests
- Administer injections and immunizations per protocol and document appropriately
- Document patient histories, medications, allergies, and visit notes in Epic
- Triage telephone calls, manage pharmacy refill requests, and follow up on patient needs
- Support clinicians by removing sutures, administering TB tests, and performing screening tests like hearing and vision
- Provide patient education, answer care questions, and escalate concerns to clinicians when needed
Qualifications
- Active MA-C certification required (MA-R not accepted)
- Current BLS certification required
- Minimum 1 year of healthcare experience; first-timers accepted for strong candidates
- Familiarity with Epic charting is required
- Comfortable working in adult outpatient cardiology clinic settings
- Reliable personal transportation required; local candidates preferred (50-mile rule)
- Willingness to float within scope to meet facility needs
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Medical Assistant certification (MA-C) required
- Current BLS certification required
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficient with Epic electronic health record and clinical charting
- Strong knowledge of healthcare terminology and outpatient clinic workflows
- Skilled in obtaining vital signs, venipuncture, specimen collection, and labeling
- Experience with injections, immunizations, nebulizer treatments, and TB testing
- Comfortable with telephone triage, pharmacy calls, and follow-up communication
- Able to perform screening tasks such as hearing and vision testing
- Capable of assisting with procedures and basic wound care like suture removal
- Organized with solid office duties and patient rooming skills
