Roles & Responsibilities

• Monitor and manage complex, post-op cardiac and critically ill patients using advanced hemodynamic assessment
• Administer medications and titrate vasoactive drips safely and accurately
• Perform focused and comprehensive patient assessments and implement evidence-based nursing interventions
• Collaborate with cardiothoracic surgeons, intensivists, and the interdisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes
• Respond quickly to clinical changes and lead emergency interventions when needed
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient progress clearly in the electronic health record
• Provide compassionate education and support to patients and families during critical care recovery
• Participate in unit-based quality initiatives and contribute to continuous improvement

Qualifications

• Active RN license (able to practice in Texas) — travel nurses should ensure state licensure requirements are met
• Minimum 1 year of critical care experience, preferably CVICU or cardiac ICU experience
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; CCRN or other critical care certifications preferred
• Strong critical thinking, assessment, and crisis management skills
• Comfortable with central lines, arterial lines, arterial monitoring, and advanced cardiac monitoring

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficiency with hemodynamic monitoring and interpreting invasive lines
• Experience with ventilator management and respiratory support for post-op cardiac patients
• Skilled in administering and titrating vasoactive and antiarrhythmic medications
• Familiarity with post-operative cardiac care protocols and chest tube management
• Excellent clinical documentation and electronic health record navigation
• Strong communication and teamwork skills for multidisciplinary collaboration
