Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based care to laboring patients and their families throughout the childbirth process
• Monitor maternal and fetal status, interpret fetal monitoring strips, and escalate concerns promptly
• Assist with labor support, safe delivery practices, and immediate postpartum care
• Collaborate closely with physicians, midwives, neonatal teams, and unit staff to ensure seamless patient care
• Document care accurately and timely in the medical record and contribute to unit quality initiatives
• Educate patients and families on labor progress, birth plans, postpartum recovery, and newborn care

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license — Tennessee license or RN compact license preferred
• Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience, with recent experience in Labor & Delivery preferred
• Current BLS certification; NRP, ACLS, or specialty certifications in maternal/newborn care preferred
• Comfortable with electronic medical records and standard L&D equipment (fetal monitors, infusion pumps)
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) — BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid knowledge of maternal-fetal physiology, labor management, and newborn transition
• Skill interpreting fetal heart rate tracings and recognizing patterns that require intervention
• Proficiency in medication administration, IV therapy, and emergency obstetric procedures
• Ability to provide patient-centered education and emotional support during labor and postpartum
• Team-oriented mindset with good prioritization and critical thinking under pressure
