Roles & Responsibilities

• Assist surgeons as a First Assist during orthopedic, neuro/spine, robotic, general, plastics and urology procedures
• Prepare and maintain the sterile field and ensure all OR equipment, including robotics, is ready and functioning
• Anticipate surgical team needs and provide efficient instrument handling to keep cases moving safely
• Collaborate with nurses, surgical assistants and anesthesia to provide excellent patient care and smooth turnover
• Document procedures and instrument counts accurately in Meditech EMR and other required records
• Participate in call rotation and respond professionally to weekday night and weekend activations
• Support continuous improvement by sharing feedback on workflows, instrumentation and patient safety

Qualifications

• CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) or equivalent surgical technologist credential
• Virginia professional license (required) — must be active and in good standing
• Minimum 2 years of OR experience (experience with robotics, ortho and neuro/spine highly preferred)
• First Assist experience or demonstrated competency in assisting during complex procedures
• Comfortable using Meditech EMR or similar clinical documentation systems
• Strong teamwork, communication and ability to function in a fast-paced OR environment

Knowledge & Skills

• Robotic surgery workflow and instrumentation
• Orthopedic and neurosurgery procedures and instruments
• Operating Room protocols, sterile technique and instrument counts
• Meditech EMR documentation and clinical charting
• Ability to troubleshoot OR equipment and communicate issues promptly
• Patient safety practices and perioperative infection control
