Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert post-operative cardio-thoracic and vascular nursing care in the Progressive Care Unit
• Continuously monitor telemetry and interpret cardiac rhythms to keep patients safe
• Manage chest tubes and post-op drains with meticulous attention to detail
• Administer and titrate cardiac drips (e.g., dobutamine, dopamine, Levo) following protocols
• Care for patients with external, epicardial, and transvenous pacers and rapid transfuser use when needed
• Document assessments and interventions accurately in Sunrise EMR
• Collaborate with surgeons, intensivists, and the interdisciplinary team for coordinated patient care
• Educate patients and families about post-op recovery, device care, and discharge planning

Qualifications

• Active RN license (able to practice in New Hampshire or compact RN eligible)
• Minimum 2 years of recent acute care nursing experience (PCU/telemetry or cardiac post-op strongly preferred)
• Cardio-thoracic post-op surgery experience required — candidates without this will not be considered
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications (required)
• Comfortable with high-acuity skills: chest tube care, telemetry, pacer management, and vasoactive drips
• Experience with Sunrise EMR or similar electronic charting systems preferred
• Organized, adaptable, and able to thrive in a fast-paced progressive care environment

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and rhythm recognition
• Cardiac post-op nursing and chest tube management
• Vasoactive medication administration and titration
• Epicardial, external, and transvenous pacer management
• High flow nasal cannula, BiPAP/CPAP support and respiratory monitoring
• Use of IV pumps, rapid transfuser, bladder scanner, and patient lifts
• Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and clear communication
• Accurate, timely documentation in Sunrise EMR
