Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive eye examinations and vision assessments
- Diagnose and manage common ocular conditions and make appropriate referrals
- Prescribe spectacles and fit contact lenses when indicated
- Document patient care accurately in the medical record and maintain confidentiality
- Work collaboratively with medical and security staff to deliver safe, high-quality care
- Adhere to facility security protocols and infection control procedures
Qualifications
- Doctor of Optometry (OD) or equivalent clinical qualification
- Active and unrestricted California optometry license (required)
- Ability to pass facility background checks and clearances for correctional settings
- Current CPR/BLS certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Strong communication skills and experience working with diverse patient populations
- Comfortable providing care in a correctional facility environment and following security protocols
- Available to work the scheduled every-other-Thursday shift
Education
- Doctor of Optometry (OD) required
Knowledge & Skills
- Comprehensive eye exam techniques and ocular health assessment
- Contact lens fitting and spectacle prescription expertise
- Knowledge of ocular pharmacology and therapeutic management
- Familiarity with electronic medical records and accurate charting
- Patient education skills and ability to communicate treatment plans clearly
- Ability to work safely and professionally within a secure/correctional setting
