Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate psychiatric care to patients within a correctional facility, maintaining safety and dignity
- Administer and document nursing care and interventions according to scope (LPT) or per RN protocols
- Monitor patient behavior and clinical status, escalating concerns promptly to the clinical team
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support treatment plans and continuity of care
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, incident reports, and medication records
- Participate in orientation and ongoing training to ensure compliance with facility policies and standards
Qualifications
- Active California Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) credential required; Registered Nurse (RN) credential accepted as alternative
- Experience working in psychiatric, behavioral health, or correctional health settings preferred
- Willingness to work the scheduled Wednesday-Sunday 1:30 PM - 10:00 PM shifts
- Completion of facility-required orientation (2 weeks) as part of onboarding
- Strong communication skills, sound clinical judgment, and de-escalation experience
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred or able to obtain promptly
Education
- Completion of an accredited Psychiatric Technician program (for LPT) or nursing degree (ADN/BSN) for RNs
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of psychiatric care principles and behavioral health interventions
- Skill in patient observation, documentation, and reporting of clinical changes
- Ability to apply de-escalation and crisis-intervention techniques calmly and effectively
- Familiarity with correctional facility protocols and safety procedures
- Team-oriented mindset with strong interpersonal and communication skills
