Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide direct, compassionate care and observation to patients in a behavioral health setting
• Support implementation of individualized treatment plans and therapeutic activities
• Monitor patient status and report clinical changes promptly to the nursing team
• Use de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention skills to maintain a safe environment
• Document care accurately and thoroughly in the patient record
• Collaborate with RNs, mental health clinicians, and security staff to coordinate care
• Promote dignity, respect and recovery-focused approaches for every patient
• Participate in facility orientation, training, and team meetings to continually improve care

Qualifications

• Active California Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) required
• Registered Nurses may apply if holding an active California RN license (role supports LPT/RN staffing)
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
• Experience in psychiatric or behavioral health settings preferred
• Comfort working within a correctional facility environment and following facility security protocols
• Ability to pass required background checks, TB screening, and facility onboarding

Education

• Licensed Psychiatric Technician: High school diploma or equivalent plus active California LPT
• Registered Nurse option: ADN or BSN with active California RN license

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong observational skills and attention to behavior changes
• Crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques
• Clear, professional communication with patients and interdisciplinary teams
• Knowledge of basics of psychiatric care, therapeutic interventions, and documentation standards
• Ability to follow structured security procedures while providing patient-centered care
• Time management and the ability to work reliably on a consistent schedule
