Roles & Responsibilities

• Assist surgeons and the CVOR team during cardiovascular procedures with precise, calm technique
• Prepare and maintain the sterile field and surgical instruments following strict sterile technique
• Perform accurate instrument and sponge counts before, during, and after procedures to ensure patient safety
• Anticipate surgeon needs and provide instruments and supplies proactively to keep cases efficient
• Respond promptly and professionally while on-call to support emergent and scheduled cases
• Document intraoperative events and instrument usage clearly and in real time
• Collaborate with perioperative team members to uphold high standards of infection control and patient care

Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Experience working in a Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) or equivalent high-acuity OR environment preferred
• Demonstrated competence with sterile technique and operative instrumentation
• Willingness and ability to cover on-call shifts (approximately 14 days/month as listed)
• Successful completion of facility onboarding requirements: Trinity Specialty Competency testing and Trinity Skills Checklist
• License/certification verification and required health screenings/immunizations (fit test, TB/PPD or IGRA, MMR, Hep B, varicella, Tdap, COVID-19 and influenza vaccination, drug screen, physical/health statement)

Education

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program; Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required

Knowledge & Skills

• Expertise in sterile processing and maintaining a sterile field in the CVOR
• Familiarity with cardiovascular surgical instruments, disposables, and equipment
• Strong situational awareness and ability to prioritize during complex cases
• Clear, professional communication with surgeons, anesthesiology, and nursing staff
• Ability to perform accurate counts and maintain thorough intraoperative documentation
• Comfort working under pressure and responding to emergent surgical needs while on-call
