Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, patient-centered psychiatric care and support to individuals in a correctional healthcare setting
- Observe, assess and document behavioral changes and clinical progress with clarity and accuracy
- Participate in treatment planning and follow through on care interventions
- Use de-escalation and crisis intervention skills to maintain a safe environment for patients and staff
- Collaborate with nurses, mental health clinicians and custody staff to coordinate care
- Lead or support therapeutic group activities and skills-building sessions as directed
- Maintain compliance with facility protocols, safety standards and infection control practices
Qualifications
- Active California Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT). Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) candidates will also be considered.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification preferred or required per facility policy
- Experience in psychiatric, behavioral health or correctional/medical settings is highly desirable
- Reliable attendance and ability to work the scheduled days; note that time off during assignment may not be permitted
- Successful background check and clearance to work in a correctional facility
Education
- Completion of a state-approved Psychiatric Technician program or Vocational Nursing program
- High school diploma or equivalent
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong observation and clinical documentation skills
- Crisis intervention and verbal de-escalation techniques
- Familiarity with behavioral health concepts and psychiatric care approaches
- Ability to follow care plans and communicate clearly with multidisciplinary teams
- Comfort working in a secure correctional healthcare environment and following related protocols
