Roles & Responsibilities

• Decontaminate, inspect and prepare surgical instruments and trays to the highest safety standards
• Assemble and package sterile sets using proper sterile processing techniques
• Operate and monitor sterilization equipment such as Sterad and Steris, and manage washer and steam disinfection processes
• Maintain accurate instrument tracking and documentation in Cerner
• Collaborate with Operating Room staff to ensure timely delivery of sterile supplies
• Follow infection control policies and contribute to a safe patient care environment

Qualifications

• Certified through IAHCSMM or CBSPD (required)
• CSPDT verification and current BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of sterile processing experience
• Familiarity with Sterad, Steris, washer disinfection and steam sterilization
• Experience working with OR teams and charting systems such as Cerner
• Able to complete a 12-hour orientation as part of onboarding

Education

• High school diploma or GED required
• Sterile processing certificate or completion of an SPD program preferred
• BSN not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Thorough knowledge of sterile processing principles and decontamination workflows
• Proven ability to use Sterad and Steris sterilizers and washer-disinfectors
• Comfortable with instrument preparation, packaging and sterilization validation
• Strong attention to detail, infection control mindset and teamwork in a surgical setting
• Familiar with OR workflows and sterile field requirements
• Basic computer skills for charting and instrument tracking (Cerner experience a plus)
