Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour shifts: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM (days) or 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM (nights); typically 3 shifts per week (option to schedule 4 shifts/week upon discussion); includes two weekend shifts per pay period; night and day rotations with floating to ICU/MS/Telemetry as needed

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality acute and postop cardiac nursing care for PCU patients
• Continuously monitor telemetry and interpret EKGs to detect dysrhythmias
• Administer IV cardiac medications and manage advanced cardiac therapies safely
• Care for patients with chest tubes, epidural catheters, PCA pumps, and post-op drains
• Manage ventilator-dependent and chronic ventilator patients when required
• Perform arterial and venous sheath care and supervised sheath removal
• Document care promptly and accurately in Cerner EMR
• Collaborate with physicians, surgeons, and the interdisciplinary team to optimize outcomes
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, procedures, and discharge plans
• Serve as a flexible team member who can float to ICU, Med-Surg, or Telemetry as needed

Qualifications

• Active and unencumbered Arizona RN license
• ACLS and BLS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
• Strong EKG/dysrhythmia interpretation skills; clinician must pass dysrhythmia exam within two attempts prior to contract
• Experience administering IV cardiac medications and managing telemetry patients
• Comfortable with chest tubes, PCA pumps, transvenous pacing and sheath care
• Willingness to work 12-hour day or night shifts and scheduled weekends; ability to float to other units

Education

• Active RN license (ADN or Diploma acceptable). BSN not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and EKG interpretation
• IV cardiac medication administration and advanced cardiac care
• Cerner electronic medical record competency
• Familiarity with Philips cardiac monitors, Welch Allyn vital signs monitors, and invasive monitoring
• Experience with Medtronic pacemakers and transvenous pacing
• Use of Pyxis medication systems, Zoll R series defibrillators, and Sigma Spectrum IV pumps
• Management of chest tubes, epidural catheters, peritoneal dialysis and chronic ventilator care
• Strong critical thinking, triage, and rapid-response skills in a fast-paced cardiac setting
