Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate post-anesthesia and same-day surgery care, ensuring smooth and safe recovery for each patient
- Monitor patients’ vital signs and recovery progress, escalating concerns promptly to the care team
- Administer medications and IV therapies safely, following protocols and verifying orders
- Perform thorough handoffs and documentation to maintain continuity of care
- Educate patients and families on post-op instructions and discharge plans with clarity and empathy
- Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and interdisciplinary colleagues to optimize patient outcomes
- Participate in weekend call rotations and support staffing needs to maintain unit coverage
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Minimum 1 year of ASU/PACU clinical experience (per posting)
- Current BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications (required)
- Comfort with post-operative monitoring, airway management and IV medication administration
- Ability to work daytime shifts and participate in weekend call rotation
- Strong communication skills and a team-first attitude
Knowledge & Skills
- Post-anesthesia recovery care and assessment
- Cardiorespiratory monitoring and interpretation of vital signs
- IV therapy, medication administration, and pain management
- Effective patient and family education techniques
- Accurate documentation in electronic health records
- Critical thinking, prioritization, and rapid response in a perioperative setting
- Teamwork and collaboration across perioperative and surgical services
