Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform continuous remote surveillance of cardio-pulmonary rhythms from a central monitoring station
• Accurately recognize and interpret EKG rhythms and potentially dangerous arrhythmias
• Promptly notify and communicate changes to local RN staff following established protocols
• Document rhythm changes, actions taken, and escalate per command center policy
• Operate and monitor ECG/telemetry equipment (GE, Ascom) and report equipment issues
• Support patient safety and department metrics through adherence to procedures and quality standards
• Cross-train and assist in other virtual roles (Virtual Patient Companion or Clinical Connection Specialist) as needed
• Participate in required orientation and in-person go-live sessions with vendor teams

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited monitoring/telemetry or related program with EKG interpretation included
• Minimum 2 years of recent related clinical or monitoring experience (3 years preferred)
• Current BLS certification required
• Must pass the Advanced Dysrhythmia exam prior to accepting the assignment (note: lethal rhythms portion is pass/fail with one attempt)
• Ability to work 12-hour night shifts, weekends, and holidays as required
• Able to comply with facility policies (no secondary job while on assignment, strict no cell phone policy during shifts)
• Successful completion of Medical Solutions prescreen interview and required onboarding/orientation hours

Education

• Graduation from an accredited program that includes EKG interpretation (certificate or diploma acceptable)
• BSN not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Cardiac rhythm recognition and advanced EKG interpretation
• Telemetry monitoring and remote surveillance best practices
• Experience with central monitoring station workflows
• Familiarity with GE and Ascom monitoring equipment
• Strong communication, reporting protocols, and escalation skills
• Ability to monitor high patient ratios virtually (45-60 patients) and prioritize effectively
• Comfort working in a technology-driven virtual hospital setting
