Surgical Technologist - Operating Room

Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour day shifts, typically 3x12 (07:00 AM - 07:00 PM) with weekend rotations (3 weekends per schedule). On-call one weeknight per week and every 2nd or 3rd Saturday or Sunday with 07:00 AM - 07:00 AM coverage (20-minute response); may require covering one night shift during the contract.

Candidate Pay Rate: $44 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms and case carts by assembling instruments, supplies and equipment for diverse cases including ortho, neuro, vascular and robotics
- Maintain strict aseptic technique and the sterile field throughout procedures to ensure patient safety
- Assist surgeons during procedures with instrument handling, retraction and specimen management
- Operate and troubleshoot specialty equipment such as da Vinci Xi, microscopes, arthroscope and laparoscopic towers
- Respond rapidly to trauma and emergency cases, supporting life-saving interventions when minutes matter
- Document intraoperative activity in the electronic charting system (Epic) accurately and timely
- Ensure proper sterilization, sharps safety and compliance with Universal Protocol (time out) before incision
- Communicate effectively with the surgical team, anesthesia, and perioperative staff to coordinate patient flow and safe handoffs
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of Surgical Technologist experience (trauma Level I experience is a hard requirement)
- Travel experience required — comfortable working across different OR environments
- Current state surgical technologist license (pending licenses are not accepted)
- BLS certification required; CST and NBSTSA preferred
- Experience in Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Vascular Surgery and Robotic (da Vinci Xi) cases strongly preferred
- Proven ability to respond on-call within a 20-minute window
- Comfortable working weekends and flexible/variable shifts
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technologist program preferred
- CST certification preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Aseptic technique, sterilization and disinfection best practices
- Universal Protocol (time out) and surgical safety processes
- Airway management basics and emergency/trauma response
- Case cart management, crash cart familiarity and instrument setup
- Experience with Epic charting and perioperative documentation
- Operative familiarity with microscopes, laparoscopic camera/tower and arthroscope equipment
- Comfort with robotic systems (Da Vinci Xi) and navigation stations (preferred)
- Strong teamwork, communication, and situational awareness in fast-paced OR settings
