Roles & Responsibilities
- Lead infection prevention surveillance and reporting efforts, using NHSN and facility tools like Bugsy
- Develop and deliver evidence-based education programs for staff on hand hygiene, PPE, and transmission-based precautions
- Investigate and respond to infection trends and potential outbreaks, partnering with clinical teams across service lines
- Ensure compliance with CDC guidelines, The Joint Commission standards, and CMS requirements
- Perform rounding and advisory functions, providing practical recommendations to reduce HAIs and improve patient safety
- Manage surgical site infection prevention initiatives and support device reprocessing and environmental cleaning protocols
- Document surveillance findings in Epic and other required systems and prepare accurate reports for leadership
Qualifications
- Current RN license (state of Washington) or equivalent clinical credential
- CBIC certification in Infection Control (CIC) required
- Minimum 3 years of acute care hospital experience across multiple service lines; must include surgery, NICU, cardiac, critical care, and ER
- Experience with Epic charting and surveillance documentation tools such as Bugsy
- BLS certification required; additional infection prevention credentials preferred
- Comfortable with rounding, staff education, and speaking to clinical leadership
- Open to candidates with MPH or microbiology background as an alternative pathway
Education
- Registered Nurse (RN) — required
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Master of Public Health (MPH) or degree in Microbiology accepted as an alternate qualification
Knowledge & Skills
- Infection prevention practices, surveillance, and NHSN reporting
- Transmission-based precautions: contact, droplet, airborne
- Hand hygiene programs, PPE use, and surgical site infection prevention
- Antibiotic stewardship principles and MDRO management
- Environmental cleaning standards, device reprocessing, and point-of-care testing practices
- Familiarity with CDC guidelines, CMS State Operations Manual, and The Joint Commission standards
- Strong communication, training, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
