Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert perioperative nursing care for surgical patients before, during, and after procedures
- Assist and scrub for a broad mix of surgeries including general, GYN, robotics, neuro, orthopedics, plastics, urology, burn and trauma
- Maintain sterile technique and ensure surgical safety standards are followed at all times
- Document patient care accurately and efficiently using Cerner
- Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, techs, and support staff for seamless case flow
- Respond to emergent situations and support rapid, coordinated interventions when needed
- Support unit needs by floating to other departments as required and contributing to team staffing
Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure (NC or compact state preferred)
- Minimum 2 years of operating room/perioperative nursing experience
- Demonstrated experience across surgical service lines such as general surgery, GYN, robotics, neurosurgery, orthopedics, plastics, urology, burn and trauma
- Experience with Cerner or similar electronic documentation systems
- Ability to work variable schedules and participate in on-call rotations
- Strong teamwork, communication, and patient-centered skills
- Certifications such as BLS (and ACLS or specialty certifications) are a plus
Knowledge & Skills
- Perioperative nursing principles and surgical patient care
- Sterile technique and instrument familiarity
- Knowledge of multiple surgical specialties (general, GYN, robotics, neuro, ortho, plastics, urology, burn/trauma)
- Proficiency with Cerner documentation
- Patient assessment, intraoperative monitoring, and perioperative safety practices
- Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced operating room environment and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
