Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, patient-centered nursing care for behavioral health patients across admissions, discharges and ongoing management
• Manage and de-escalate aggressive or acute psychiatric behavior using proven safety techniques
• Respond to behavioral health emergencies, including rapid responses and code situations, calmly and effectively
• Perform clinical procedures such as IV therapy, wound care and phlebotomy with accuracy and attention to comfort
• Document thoroughly in Cerner EMR to ensure clear communication and continuity of care
• Assess patient status, implement nursing plans, and collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to optimize outcomes
• Maintain unit safety, monitor vital signs and support therapeutic milieu for adults, adolescents and geriatric patients
• Support high-volume admissions and discharges in a fast-paced environment while keeping quality and patient dignity front and center

Qualifications

• Current, active RN license (state licensure required)
• Minimum 2 years recent nursing experience (behavioral health experience strongly preferred)
• Required certifications: CPI and BLS
• Demonstrated ability to manage aggressive patients and respond to psychiatric emergencies
• Clinical skills in IV therapy, wound care and phlebotomy
• Familiarity with Cerner EMR or similar electronic medical records
• Strong critical thinking, time management, patience and a compassionate bedside manner
• Willingness to work weekends and floating to other inpatient adult or geriatric units as needed

Knowledge & Skills

• Behavioral health nursing principles and emergency response
• Aggressive patient management and de-escalation techniques
• Clinical skills: IV therapy, wound care, blood draws (phlebotomy)
• Proficiency with Cerner EMR and accurate clinical documentation
• Critical thinking under pressure and excellent time management
• Comfort with vital sign monitoring, glucometers, oxygen use, code cart procedures and bladder scanner operation
• Strong teamwork and communication in interdisciplinary settings
