Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, high-acuity nursing care for surgical, trauma and spinal/neuro patients.
- Lead and participate in thorough nurse handoffs with ED and admitting units to ensure continuity of care.
- Manage complex cases including gunshot wounds, quadriplegia and paraplegia with clinical confidence and calm.
- Coordinate care with support techs, phlebotomists and unit staff to maintain efficient workflows and safe patient ratios.
- Document patient status and interventions accurately in EPIC and support unit quality and safety initiatives.
- Advocate for patient needs, participate in interdisciplinary rounds, and contribute to discharge planning.
Qualifications
- Current RN license required (state licensure or compact as applicable)
- Minimum 2 years of experience in trauma, surgical, or high-acuity specialty required
- BLS required, ACLS preferred
- Experience with EPIC documentation is required
- Comfort managing high-acuity patient loads and working in fast-paced trauma/surgical settings
- Strong communication skills for effective nurse handoffs and interdisciplinary collaboration
Knowledge & Skills
- High acuity nursing and critical thinking under pressure
- Trauma nursing, including care of gunshot and multi-trauma patients
- Surgical nursing and post-operative management
- Neuro (spinal) nursing experience
- Skilled nurse handoffs and interdisciplinary communication
- EPIC electronic documentation proficiency
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and familiarity with ACLS protocols
- Ability to work varied shifts and maintain patient safety at a 5:1 ratio
