Contract Type: Travel Contract

Shift Type: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM with evening and weekend on-call and call-back responsibilities (day shift with rotating on-call evenings/weekends). Call ratio roughly 7-10 days per month.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform pre-op physical exams and thoughtfully prepare patients for surgery
• Assist in open heart, vascular, and thoracic surgeries in the OR
• Provide inpatient rounding and continuity of care for adult surgical patients
• Insert chest tubes and perform thoracentesis when clinically indicated
• Manage post-op care including suture removal and clinical follow-up
• Order and interpret tests, write prescriptions, and coordinate multidisciplinary care
• Document thoroughly and efficiently in Epic to maintain high-quality records
• Cover assigned on-call shifts, respond to call-backs, and triage urgent surgical needs

Qualifications

• Clinically experienced Physician Assistant with demonstrated OR experience in open heart, vascular, and thoracic surgeries
• Comfortable providing adult patient care across clinic, OR, and inpatient settings
• Proficient with Epic documentation and order entry
• Procedural competence including chest tube insertion and thoracentesis
• Able and willing to provide evening and weekend on-call coverage (call ratio ~7–10 days/month)
• Able to complete credentialing process (estimated 90–120 days) to meet facility requirements

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong familiarity with cardiothoracic surgical workflows and intraoperative assistance
• Skilled in pre-op assessment, postoperative care, and inpatient rounding
• Procedural skills: chest tube insertion, thoracentesis, suture removal
• Comfortable ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests and managing perioperative medication plans
• Efficient Epic use for documentation, orders, and communication
• Ability to work autonomously when appropriate and collaborate with supervising physicians in OR and clinic
