Shift Type: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM with evening and weekend on-call/callback responsibilities (day shift with rotating on-call; approx. 7-10 days of call per month)

Roles & Responsibilities

• Assist in cardiothoracic, vascular and thoracic surgeries in the OR and provide perioperative support
• Perform inpatient rounds and manage clinic patient care for adult patients
• Provide on-call and callback coverage during evenings and weekends as scheduled
• Perform procedures such as chest tube insertions and thoracentesis when indicated
• Conduct pre-operative physical exams and participate in surgical planning
• Write prescriptions, order and interpret tests, and manage patient follow-up
• Remove sutures and perform routine wound care with attention to surgical outcomes
• Document care thoroughly and efficiently in Epic to ensure continuity and quality

Qualifications

• Active Physician Assistant certification (PA-C) or equivalent (ability to obtain Ohio licensure required)
• Proven OR experience with open heart, vascular and thoracic surgeries
• Comfortable working autonomously as an APP with supervising physician available in OR/clinic
• Experience with inpatient rounding and clinic patient management
• Prior experience using Epic EMR for documentation and orders
• Ability to cover on-call evenings and weekends (approximately 7–10 days/month)
• Familiarity with Level 2 trauma workflows is a plus

Education

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of cardiothoracic surgical procedures and perioperative care
• Proficiency with chest tube insertion and thoracentesis
• Skilled in pre-op assessments, surgical assistance and post-op management
• Comfortable writing prescriptions and ordering appropriate diagnostic tests
• Effective inpatient rounding and coordination with multidisciplinary teams
• Experience documenting in Epic and using EMR workflows
• Ability to manage on-call responsibilities and triage urgent surgical needs
