Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality respiratory care including assessment, treatment and monitoring of patients
- Administer and manage respiratory therapies and oxygen delivery systems safely
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and adjust patient care plans
- Operate, calibrate and troubleshoot respiratory equipment with attention to safety
- Document patient status and interventions clearly and promptly in the medical record
- Educate patients and families on respiratory conditions and home care strategies
- Respond to emergency situations with calm, efficient respiratory support
Qualifications
- Current Respiratory Care Practitioner credential (RCP) required
- California state respiratory license or eligibility to obtain state licensure
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required; ACLS preferred or encouraged
- Experience working in acute care or correctional healthcare settings is a plus
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively on care teams
Education
- Completion of an accredited respiratory therapy program (Associate degree or equivalent preferred)
- Ongoing continuing education to maintain licensure and certifications
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled with ventilators, oxygen therapy and aerosolized medication delivery
- Comfortable performing arterial blood gas sampling and interpreting results
- Knowledge of respiratory assessment techniques and pulmonary function testing
- Ability to follow infection control protocols and maintain equipment hygiene
- Good clinical judgment, documentation habits and time management
