Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, person-centered care to geriatric residents, assisting with activities of daily living
- Monitor residents for changes in condition and promptly report concerns to nursing staff
- Assist with safe transfers, mobility and fall prevention measures to protect resident wellbeing
- Support mealtime and hydration needs, accommodating dietary and cultural preferences
- Maintain accurate documentation and follow care plans to ensure continuity of care
- Build trusting relationships with residents and families, offering reassurance and respectful communication
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to contribute to high-quality long-term care outcomes
Qualifications
- GNA or CNA certification in good standing (state-recognized) — required or as specified by the facility
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification preferred
- Up-to-date immunizations and TB screening per facility policy
- Clean background check and ability to pass facility onboarding requirements
- Previous experience in long-term care or geriatric settings preferred but enthusiastic new graduates are welcome
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an approved GNA/CNA program
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of activities of daily living and geriatric care principles
- Ability to observe and report changes in resident condition clearly and timely
- Excellent interpersonal skills and empathy when working with older adults
- Basic infection control practices and safe body mechanics for lifting/transfers
- Time management and teamwork in a fast-paced long-term care environment
