Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living—bathing, dressing, grooming—with dignity and patience
- Support safe transfers and mobility, using proper body mechanics and transfer techniques
- Monitor resident condition and promptly report changes to nursing staff to ensure timely care
- Provide compassionate companionship and emotional support to residents and families
- Document care accurately and timely to maintain clear communication across the care team
- Maintain a clean, safe environment by following infection control and safety protocols
- Assist with meal service and nutrition monitoring, noting intake and any concerns
Qualifications
- Current GNA certification (Geriatric Nursing Assistant) required
- State nursing assistant certification or equivalency as required by Maryland facilities
- Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification preferred or willing to obtain
- Willingness to complete facility onboarding: TB testing, immunizations, background check, and drug screen as required
- Compassionate bedside manner and experience working with older adult populations preferred
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work assigned shift times
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- GNA certification or completion of an approved nursing assistant program
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of ADLs (activities of daily living) and elder care best practices
- Comfortable with resident mobility assistance and safe transfer techniques
- Clear verbal communication and teamwork skills for effective bedside coordination
- Basic documentation skills and attention to detail for accurate charting
- Awareness of infection control principles and ability to follow safety protocols
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to build rapport with residents and families
