Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, toileting) with dignity and respect
- Support safe mobility and transfers while following proper body mechanics
- Observe and report changes in condition to the nursing team promptly
- Take and record vital signs accurately and communicate trends
- Help create a warm, home-like environment and provide meaningful companionship
- Maintain clean, organized resident areas and follow infection control policies
- Document care and interventions clearly to support continuity and quality of care
Qualifications
- Current Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification or equivalent
- Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification preferred or willing to obtain
- Valid state certification/registration as required by Maryland
- Ability to pass background checks and meet facility health/immunization requirements
- Comfortable with hands-on resident care and safe patient handling
- Strong communication skills and a compassionate bedside manner
Education
- GNA certification required
- High school diploma or GED preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Comfortable providing personal care and supporting ADLs
- Knowledge of infection control and safe hygiene practices
- Ability to take and document vital signs and simple observations
- Good time management and ability to prioritize resident needs
- Team player who communicates clearly with nurses and care staff
- Empathy, patience, and the ability to engage residents respectfully
